This course introduces all the skills and techniques as during our Introduction To Map Skills and Introduction To Compass Skills courses over two consecutive days.
Skills and techniques that will be covered include - considerations of making a route selection, equipment, emergency procedures, selection from variety available, map scale and map symbols, understanding grid references, land access, how to orientate the map, recognising physical landscape features from the map, creating & using a navigation strategy, the compass, using the compass to set the map, taking and following a compass bearing, measuring distance, pacing & timing distances, understanding contours, navigation on open ground, relocation techniques and more.
SUITABILITY: This 2 Day course is suitable for new, novice, and more experienced, walkers who are looking to gain the knowledge and skills of navigation required to navigate routes 'on or off path' through the outdoor environments.No previous navigational knowledge is required but may be of benefit.
REQUIREMENTS: This course involves 2 days of outdoor practical skills explanation, demonstration and client implementation. Those attending should have an adequate level of fitness required for 2 consecutive days of walking in an upland environment including over 'off path' terrain', to gain the most from the course.
Those attending should be in possession of all items listed on kit list (which will be sent out with information pack on booking).
INCLUDED: Course leadership, planning, organisation and instruction by fully qualified and experienced mountain leader/course instructor.
NOT INCLUDED: Travel, accommodation, any other expenses such as parking fees etc.
